Boken dokumenterer adopsjonsfeltet fra USA 'reddet' barn under Koreakrigen til systemet nå er under granskning i flere land. Kaoset etter Koreakrigen førte til fremveksten av et massivt system av transnasjonale adopsjoner mellom Sør-Korea og Vesten, og etter hvert fra en rekke andre land. De første barna fra Sør-Korea kom til Norge på midten av 1950-tallet, og Norge skulle etter hvert trone på verdenstoppen i antall utenlandsadopsjoner. En førjulskveld 1998 kom barn nummer K 98/135 fra Seoul til Norge. På Gardermoen ventet, Kristin Botnmark, som skulle bli hans nye mor. Drøyt 20 år senere vil sønnen finne ut av sin egen opprinnelse og historie. Samtalene mellom mor og sønn reiser spørsmål som fører til at moren starter en utforsking av historien om transnasjonal adopsjon. Denne boken er en kompleks historie som viser at transnasjonal adopsjon er et tema som både berører dypt personlig og strekker seg over kontinenter. Den utvider vår forståelse av familie, identitet og rettferdighet.
